TITLE: ANGER IS A BAD INVESTMENT

“For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”

OPENING THOUGHT: THE DAY ANGER OPENED A WHATSAPP GROUP WITH A DONKEY

Beloved, if anger were a person, it would be that noisy neighbour who borrows your generator and returns only the rope. It arrives uninvited, speaks louder than wisdom, and leaves you paying the bill for what your mouth said under its influence.

Imagine a prophet standing on the road, sweating with annoyance, arguing with a donkey as if they were co-hosting a radio programme:

«Donkey: “Master, I have served you faithfully for years.”
Prophet: “Keep quiet, animal!”
Donkey: “But I am trying to save your life.”
Prophet: “I rebuke you!”
Angel: watching silently»

That is the comedy of uncontrolled anger: it can reduce a respected man into a public entertainer without an audience ticket.

Many people think anger makes them powerful. No, anger often makes people dramatic, noisy, and temporarily foolish.

ANGER IS A BAD INVESTMENT

Nobody has ever become richer by investing in anger. The returns are terrible:

- Five minutes of anger can destroy five years of trust.
- One angry text can bury a beautiful relationship.
- One uncontrolled outburst can turn a respected leader into a regretting philosopher by evening.

Anger is like pouring boiling water on your own legs because someone stepped on your shoe.

CASE STUDY 1: MOSES — THE PROPHET WHO MISSED CANAAN BECAUSE OF A TEMPER BURST

Numbers 20:7–12

God said, “Speak to the rock.”

Moses heard, “Conduct a percussion concert.”

In frustration, he struck the rock twice.

Picture the scene satirically:

- The Israelites were murmuring.
- Moses’ blood pressure was rising.
- Aaron was probably looking away, pretending not to know him.
- The rock was innocent but became the victim of transferred aggression.

Water came out, but Canaan disappeared from Moses’ itinerary.

DEEP LESSON

You can be anointed and still be angry. The tragedy is that anointing may produce results while anger quietly produces consequences.

CASE STUDY 2: BALAAM — WHEN A PROPHET HELD A STAFF MEETING WITH A DONKEY

Numbers 22:21–34

Balaam became angry because the donkey refused to move.

Instead of asking, “Why is this animal behaving strangely?” he began a roadside beating ministry.

Then the donkey spoke:

«“What have I done unto thee?” — Numbers 22:28»

Beloved, when your anger becomes so unreasonable that a donkey sounds wiser than you, it is time for fasting and repentance.

SATIRICAL TRUTH

Some people are so angry that:

- Their kettle fears them.
- Their television receives rebukes.
- Their children know the sound of their footsteps better than the sound of worship songs.
- Even mosquitoes seek police protection before entering their room.

Balaam’s anger nearly killed him. The donkey was not his enemy; his uncontrolled reaction was.

CASE STUDY 3: CAIN — THE FIRST MAN WHO ALLOWED ANGER TO BECOME A FAMILY BUSINESS

Genesis 4:3–8

Cain was offended that God accepted Abel’s offering.

God warned him:

But Cain entertained anger like a special guest.

Notice the progression:

1. Offence
2. Bitterness
3. Isolation
4. Violence
5. Regret

Anger always begins as a visitor; if welcomed, it becomes a landlord.

CASE STUDY 4: SAUL — THE KING WHO TURNED DAVID INTO HIS FULL-TIME HEADACHE

1 Samuel 18:6–12

Women sang:

«“Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”»

Instead of celebrating national victory, Saul began counting song lyrics like an election tribunal judge.

From that day:

- He could not sleep peacefully.
- He carried spears everywhere.
- He attended palace meetings physically but pursued David mentally.

HUMOROUS OBSERVATION

Anger can make a person promote another man into permanent residence inside his head without paying rent.

Saul lost peace, dignity, spiritual sensitivity, and eventually the throne.

CASE STUDY 5: JONAH — THE PROPHET WHO WAS ANGRY BECAUSE GOD WAS TOO KIND

Jonah 4:1–4

This is perhaps the funniest anger in Scripture.

Jonah preached repentance, and the people repented. Instead of rejoicing over revival, he became upset that his sermon worked too well.

God asked him gently:

«“Doest thou well to be angry?”»

LESSON

Sometimes we are angry not because God is unjust, but because His mercy embarrasses our expectations.

WHY ANGER IS SO DANGEROUS

1. IT MAKES WISE PEOPLE LOOK SILLY

«“Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry.” — Ecclesiastes 7:9»

A calm fool often appears wiser than an angry genius.

2. IT TURNS SMALL MATTERS INTO NATIONAL EMERGENCIES

- A delayed greeting becomes betrayal.
- A forgotten birthday becomes witchcraft.
- A correction becomes persecution.
- A different opinion becomes spiritual warfare.

3. IT DAMAGES THE BODY

A hot temper is like setting your internal organs on continuous roasting mode.

4. IT POLLUTES WORSHIP

«“Lifting up holy hands, without wrath…” — 1 Timothy 2:8»

Some people sing “I Surrender All” while still rehearsing yesterday’s argument in their hearts.

MODERN REFLECTION: THE AGE OF DIGITAL ANGER

Today anger has acquired 4G, 5G, and unlimited data.

People become angry because:

- Someone viewed their status and did not reply.
- A message was answered with “OK” instead of “Thank you so much, beloved child of destiny.”
- Their post received three likes instead of thirty.
- Another person’s success appeared online before theirs.

Beloved, not every silence is hatred, and not every disagreement is an attack.

A MOMENT OF HONEST SELF-EXAMINATION

Ask yourself:

- Why do I become angry so quickly?
- Do people feel safe around me?
- Have my children learned fear instead of affection?
- Is my home filled with peace or emotional tension?
- Am I defending God’s honour or merely my pride?

PROPHETIC INSIGHT

Beloved, anger has a long list of victims:

- Moses lost Canaan.
- Balaam nearly lost his life.
- Cain lost his brother and peace.
- Saul lost his throne.
- Jonah lost his joy.
- The elder brother lost the celebration.
- Haman lost his future.

Do not allow your name to become the next chapter in the book of avoidable destinies.

PROPHETIC PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus,

Deliver me from every spirit of uncontrolled anger.

Where pride has been hiding behind my reactions, expose it by Your light.

Heal every wounded memory, every silent bitterness, and every emotional scar that fuels destructive responses.

Teach my tongue to speak life, my heart to choose mercy, and my spirit to remain calm under pressure.

May I never sacrifice relationships, opportunities, ministry, or destiny on the altar of temporary emotion.

Fill me with the Spirit of Christ — gentle, wise, patient, and strong.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

PROPHETIC CONFESSION

I refuse to be ruled by anger.

I will not exchange my destiny for a moment of emotional heat.

My spirit is under the government of the Holy Ghost.

My words will heal and not wound.

My home will carry peace.

My relationships will reflect grace.

I walk in wisdom, patience, mercy, and self-control.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

CLOSING EXHORTATION

Beloved, anger is expensive. It collects payment in relationships, opportunities, health, peace, reputation, and destiny.

Before you react today, remember Moses striking the rock, Saul throwing spears, Haman building gallows, and Balaam arguing with a donkey.

Do not let a temporary feeling produce a permanent consequence.

Guard your spirit.

Protect your peace.

Preserve your destiny.

And please — don’t become another prophet holding a serious conversation with a donkey while heaven is trying to save your life.
