MOMENT OF ENCOUNTER DEVOTIONAL
By Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida
DOMINION MANDATE: THE WAR BETWEEN TWO SEEDS
The Seed of the Woman and the Seed of the Serpent
Anchor Scripture:
«“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed…” — Genesis 3:15 (KJV)»
Memory Verse:
«“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.” — Romans 16:20 (KJV)»
MESSAGE
Beloved, there is an ancient conflict running through the story of humanity. It did not begin with your family problem, that difficult colleague at work, or the neighbour who seems specially gifted in testing your patience. It goes all the way back to Eden.
Before sin entered the world, God gave humanity a mandate:
«“Be fruitful, and multiply… subdue it: and have dominion.” — Genesis 1:28»
Then came the serpent.
His strategy was not simply to make Adam and Eve eat forbidden fruit. He wanted to disrupt their relationship with God, corrupt their obedience, and interfere with the dominion God had entrusted to them.
After the Fall, God declared that there would be conflict between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent (Genesis 3:15).
This is not about two biological races, tribes, colours, or nationalities. It describes two opposing spiritual directions: submission to God and rebellion against Him; truth and deception; light and darkness.
Ultimately, the promised Seed of the woman is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who defeated the works of darkness through His death and resurrection.
And surprisingly, this ancient battle still shows up in very ordinary places—in our thoughts, relationships, finances, workplaces, families, phones, conversations, and daily decisions.
1. THE REAL BATTLE IS OVER WHO GOVERNS YOU
The serpent's first recorded weapon was not violence. It was a question:
«“Yea, hath God said…?” — Genesis 3:1»
He attacked God's Word because once truth becomes negotiable, obedience soon becomes optional.
The same battle happens today.
God says, “Forgive.”
Your emotions reply, “After what they did to me?”
God says, “Wait.”
Impatience whispers, “Better help God before it is too late.”
God says, “Tell the truth.”
Pressure suggests, “Don't lie—just arrange the truth strategically!”
God says, “Trust Me.”
Your bank balance clears its throat and asks, “Are you sure?”
This is where dominion becomes practical.
Whatever consistently controls your decisions is gradually exercising dominion over your life.
Dominion begins when God's Word becomes stronger than your impulses.
2. DON'T BE SURPRISED WHEN PURPOSE MEETS RESISTANCE
Cain attacked Abel. Pharaoh oppressed Israel. Haman plotted against the Jews. Herod attempted to destroy the infant Jesus.
Different people. Different generations. Yet the same pattern of resistance against God's redemptive purpose.
So don't automatically conclude that every difficulty means God has abandoned you.
Sometimes you decide to become serious with prayer, and distractions suddenly multiply.
You decide to save money, and unexpected expenses begin arriving like invited wedding guests.
You decide to live peacefully, and somebody suddenly discovers exactly which button to press!
You decide to live holy, and temptation somehow remembers an address you thought it had forgotten.
Beloved, don't panic.
Resistance is not always evidence that you are on the wrong road. Sometimes it appears because there is something valuable worth resisting.
Keep walking with God.
3. PLEASE, DON'T TURN EVERYBODY INTO A DEMON
Paul reminds us:
«“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12»
This is important because Christians can sometimes become so conscious of spiritual warfare that every disagreement begins to look like a demonic conspiracy.
Your colleague may not be a witch.
Your mother-in-law is not automatically a principality.
That neighbour may simply need better manners.
And the person who refused to lend you money has not necessarily joined the kingdom of darkness!
Spiritual maturity requires discernment, not suspicion.
Our real warfare is against sin, deception, temptation, spiritual wickedness, and everything that resists God's truth.
Never become hateful while claiming to fight darkness.
You cannot defeat darkness by becoming dark yourself.
4. CHRIST HAS ALREADY WON THE DECISIVE BATTLE
Genesis 3:15 promised that the Seed of the woman would crush the serpent's head.
That promise finds its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ.
At Calvary, it appeared that darkness had finally won.
Jesus was crucified.
The disciples scattered.
The tomb was sealed.
For a moment, everything looked finished.
But Sunday morning changed the interpretation of Friday!
Christ rose from the dead.
«“Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them…” — Colossians 2:15»
The Cross was not Christ's defeat.
It was the battlefield of His victory.
Therefore, as believers, we are not desperately trying to manufacture victory over Satan. We stand confidently in the victory Christ has already accomplished.
5. YOUR FIRST TERRITORY OF DOMINION IS YOU
This is where the message becomes personal.
We sometimes want authority over territories when we have little authority over our temper.
We want to command principalities but cannot command procrastination.
We can bind demons at midnight, yet by 8:00 a.m. we cannot bind our tongue when somebody annoys us.
Beloved, dominion must begin at home—and the first address is your own heart.
Before conquering nations, conquer destructive habits.
Before commanding mountains, develop discipline.
Before praying for greater influence, become faithful with your present responsibility.
When temptation comes and you choose holiness, that is dominion.
When someone hurts you and you refuse bitterness, that is dominion.
When financial pressure comes and you refuse dishonest gain, that is dominion.
When fear says, “You cannot,” and faith answers, “By God's grace, I will,” that is dominion.
When disappointment tells you to quit, but you rise again and continue faithfully, that is dominion.
Romans 5:17 says that through Jesus Christ we shall “reign in life.”
That is Christianity beyond Sunday morning.
PROPHETIC INSIGHT
Beloved, the conflict between the two seeds is real, but the final outcome is not in doubt.
Jesus Christ has won.
So don't surrender your mind to fear.
Don't surrender your marriage or family to bitterness.
Don't surrender your integrity because money is tight.
Don't surrender your calling because people misunderstand you.
And don't hand your tomorrow over to yesterday's mistakes.
The serpent may fight, but Christ reigns.
You were not saved merely to spend your life running from darkness.
You were called to carry light into it.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The greatest evidence of dominion is not how loudly you command Satan, but how consistently Jesus Christ governs your everyday life.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let Your rule be established in every area of my life. Give me wisdom to recognize the schemes of darkness and discernment not to turn people into enemies unnecessarily.
Give me dominion over sin, fear, anger, bitterness, temptation, discouragement, destructive habits, and everything fighting Your purpose for my life. Help me to walk in truth, maintain my integrity, love people genuinely, and remain faithful when life becomes difficult.
Because Jesus Christ has overcome, I will not surrender my God-given assignment. I will rise above every resistance, fulfil my purpose, and shine wherever You have planted me.
Christ reigns in me, and by His grace, I shall reign in life.
In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
Your Brother,
Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida
