FATHERS DON'T GIVE BIRTH... THEY GIVE DIRECTION!

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE

«“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD...”
— Genesis 18:19»

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

One of the greatest misunderstandings in our generation is this: every father thinks producing children automatically makes him a parent.

No, sir!

Even mosquitoes produce plenty of children. The difference is that they don't stay around to train them!

God never called fathers to be baby manufacturers. He called them to be destiny builders.

A man can give a child his surname and still fail to give that child direction.

When God looked at Abraham, He didn't say, "I know him because he is rich." He didn't say, "I know him because he owns many cattle." Heaven's recommendation was different:

«"He will direct his children..."»

In other words, "I can trust this man with the next generation."

What a testimony!

Sadly, many fathers today know their children's shoe size but not their spiritual size.

They know their children's favourite football club but have no idea whether they still pray.

They can buy the latest smartphone but cannot remember the last time they opened the Bible with the family.

A charging cable is always available...

Family devotion is always "coming tomorrow."

No wonder some children know superheroes better than the Hero of heroes!

David understood fatherhood.

When he was about to die, he didn't tell Solomon where the palace keys were hidden.

Instead, he said:

«"Be strong... and keep the charge of the LORD your God." — 1 Kings 2:2–3»

David knew something every father must learn:

Money can build a house, but only God builds a home.

Then came Joshua's generation.

The Bible says:

«"...Another generation arose after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which He had done for Israel." — Judges 2:10»

Imagine that!

Their parents taught them how to inherit land but forgot to introduce them to the Owner of the land.

They inherited houses but lost Heaven.

This proves that miracles may be inherited, but convictions must be intentionally imparted.

Then we meet Eli.

A respected priest...

A failed father.

His sons wore priestly garments but had empty hearts.

«"Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD." — 1 Samuel 2:12»

Eli corrected them with soft speeches when firm discipline was needed.

Remember this:

Children don't only inherit what you own... they often imitate what you tolerate.

Thankfully, Timothy had a different story.

His grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice planted God's Word in him from childhood.

«2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15»

They didn't merely tell him about God.

They showed him God.

That is true parenting.

LESSONS FOR TODAY

- Children need your example more than your excuses.
- If you don't disciple your children, the world gladly will.
- Your greatest inheritance is not your property but your principles.
- A father's voice today becomes a child's conscience tomorrow.
- God is not looking for successful providers alone, but faithful spiritual builders.

PRAYER

Father, help me to become a builder of generations. Let my children inherit more than my name—let them inherit my faith, my convictions, and my passion for You. May my life point my family toward Christ, and may my home become an altar where Your name is honoured. In Jesus' name, Amen.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION

May God make you a father He can trust.

May your children remember your prayers more than your possessions.

May your voice continue to guide them long after you have gone to glory.

Your family will become a lineage of God-fearing men and women.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Anybody can produce a child...

Only a godly father can produce a generation.

Don't just leave your children an inheritance.

Leave them a God to follow.
