MOMENT OF ENCOUNTER DEVOTIONAL
By Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida
Topic: Jezebel: A Witch... Yet a Loyal Wife!
(The tragedy is not that she was loyal, the tragedy is that she was loyal to wickedness.)
Key Text
1 Kings 21:25 "There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife."
Devotional Message
If there were an award for "Wife of the Year" in the kingdom of darkness, Jezebel would probably have received a standing ovation.
She never abandoned her husband. She never exposed his weaknesses. She understood his moods without him saying a word. She solved his problems before he even finished complaining.
In today's language, people would say, "She's a real one!" "Relationship goals!" "Ride or die!"
Well... she truly was ride or die, and unfortunately, she rode Ahab straight into divine judgment!
When Ahab came home looking like someone whose football club had just been relegated because Naboth refused to sell his vineyard, Jezebel didn't ask, "Honey, have you prayed about it?"
She didn't say, "Let's trust God's timing."
She didn't advise, "Maybe God has something better for you."
Instead she practically said, "Who offended my husband? Give me five business days... no, five hours!"
Before Ahab finished sulking, Jezebel had already organized false witnesses, arranged a murder, and delivered the vineyard as though it was an online shopping package.
What efficiency! Wrong mission... Excellent management.
Some people are highly competent; they are simply using their competence for the wrong kingdom.
The greatest danger is not having loyal people around you. The greatest danger is having loyal people who will help you disobey God with enthusiasm.
Never mistake commitment for godliness. A person can be faithfully wrong.
Biblical Examples of Loyalty Gone Wrong
1. Aaron — The People's Favourite Leader
(Exodus 32:1–4)
Aaron wanted everyone to be happy.
Instead of leading the people, he followed them. Instead of breaking idols, he manufactured one.
Some leaders today are so busy collecting applause that they have forgotten how to preach repentance.
Lesson: If everybody is clapping for you while God is frowning at you, your popularity has become your problem.
2. Peter — A Loving Disciple with Bad Advice
(Matthew 16:21–23)
Peter genuinely loved Jesus.
When Jesus spoke about the Cross, Peter responded like many modern believers:
"God forbid! Reject it! You deserve better!"
Jesus immediately replied,
"Get behind me, Satan."
Imagine being rebuked for caring too much!
Peter loved Jesus but opposed God's plan.
Lesson: Not every emotional advice is spiritual advice.
3. Ananias and Sapphira , Couple Goals... to the Grave
(Acts 5:1–10)
Nowadays people admire couples because they dress alike.
Ananias and Sapphira lied alike.
They planned together. Agreed together. Deceived together. Collapsed together.
Some partnerships are so united that even judgment cannot separate them.
Lesson: Unity without holiness is simply organized rebellion.
4. Herod and Herodias
(Mark 6:17–27)
Herod knew John the Baptist was innocent.
But because of pride, public opinion, and pressure from Herodias, he ordered John's execution.
Many people know the truth but refuse to obey it because they don't want anybody to be angry with them.
Lesson: If pleasing people costs you God's approval, the price is too high.
A Little Humour... But Think About It
Some spouses have become unofficial Holy Spirit.
"Don't worry, darling... I have already replied that insulting message for you."
"Honey, I already lied to your boss that you were fasting."
"I deleted the evidence before anyone saw it."
Congratulations! You have just graduated from the Jezebel School of Relationship Management.
Love should not become an accomplice to sin.
A good spouse helps you enter Heaven, not merely escape consequences.
Lessons for Today's Believers
✔ Loyalty Must Bow to God's Word
Stand with your spouse, your pastor, your friends and your family, but never stand against God.
✔ Love Must Correct Before It Comforts
Sometimes the most loving sentence is not, "I'm with you."
It is, "My brother, you are wrong."
✔ Influence Is Never Neutral
Every day you are either pulling someone closer to Christ or pushing someone further away.
There is no middle ground.
✔ Don't Become Someone's Permanent Excuse
Many destinies have been destroyed by people who kept saying,
"Leave him alone."
"That's just how she behaves."
"Nobody is perfect."
No. Grace forgives. Grace does not sponsor sin.
Reflection
Before you defend someone, ask yourself:
Am I protecting a person or protecting sin?
Does my love encourage holiness or compromise?
If Jesus were physically standing beside me, would He approve of the advice I'm giving?
Practical Application
✅ For Married Couples: Help each other become more like Christ, not more comfortable in sin.
✅ For Friends: A real friend does not only defend you; a real friend also corrects you.
✅ For Church Members: Support your pastor's vision, but never participate in anything that contradicts Scripture.
✅ For Parents: Don't raise children who obey you but ignore God.
Action Point
This week, examine every relationship in your life.
Ask yourself: "Am I helping people become saints... or simply successful sinners?"
Repent wherever your loyalty has replaced righteousness.
Prayer
Father, deliver me from every blind loyalty that competes with my loyalty to You.
Give me the courage to speak the truth in love, even when it is uncomfortable.
May my influence produce righteousness, wisdom, and eternal life in everyone around me.
Help me never to encourage anyone toward destruction in the name of love.
In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
Prophetic Declaration
🕊️ I declare that my loyalty shall be governed by the Word of God.
I shall never use my influence to promote evil.
I receive the courage to correct in love and the wisdom to lead others toward righteousness.
My marriage shall glorify God.
My friendships shall sharpen destinies.
My family shall serve the Lord.
I shall be remembered as a builder of lives, not a sponsor of destruction.
In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
Your Brother,
