THE STUPIDITY OF HUMAN RACE PART 3

Moment of Encounter Today

By Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida

Series Title: The Stupidity of the Human Race (Part 3)

Today’s Title:

The Dirty Fight for Recognition and Relevance

Scripture:

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." — Philippians 2:3 (KJV)

Devotional Message:

One of the greatest foolishness of the human race is the desperate struggle for recognition and relevance. Many people live their entire lives chasing titles, fame, and public approval, only to realize at the end that it was all vanity. The world celebrates power and status, but God honors humility and service.

From politics to the church, from workplaces to social media, people fight to be noticed, appreciated, and applauded. The craving for relevance has led to conflicts, betrayals, and unnecessary competition, yet Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant." (Matthew 20:26)

Practical Examples of the Foolishness of Fighting for Recognition

1. Absalom: A Prince Who Fought for the Throne and Lost His Life

Absalom, the son of King David, wanted to be king at all costs. He used deceit to win the hearts of the people and rebelled against his father (2 Samuel 15). But in the end, he died a shameful death, hanging from a tree (2 Samuel 18:9-15).

Like Absalom, many today fight for power, thinking they can take what God has not given them. They manipulate, slander others, and seek attention, forgetting that only God promotes (Psalm 75:6-7).

2. The Pharisees: Seeking Recognition Instead of God’s Approval

The Pharisees loved public recognition. They prayed loudly in the streets, wore long robes to appear holy, and sought the praise of men (Matthew 23:5-7). But Jesus rebuked them, saying, "They have their reward." (Matthew 6:2)

Many Christians today are no different. They serve in church, preach, sing, or give, not for God’s glory but for human applause. This is foolishness because God sees the heart.

3. Lucifer: The First to Fight for Recognition and Lose Everything

Lucifer was a beautiful and powerful angel, but he wanted to be like God. Because of his pride, he was cast out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15). His foolish ambition made him the enemy of God.

Today, many fight for titles, influence, and fame, thinking they deserve to be in higher positions. But like Lucifer, their pride will bring them down.

Modern-Day Signs of the Fight for Recognition

1. Seeking Validation from People – Always needing others to praise you.

2. Competing with Others – Trying to outshine others in ministry, career, or social life.

3. Craving Titles and Positions – Wanting to be called ‘Boss,’ ‘Reverend,’ ‘Doctor,’ or ‘Prophet’ for self-glory.

4. Feeling Offended When Not Recognized – Being angry when people don’t appreciate or honor you.

5. Doing Things Just to Be Seen – Posting everything on social media to gain attention.

The Dangers of Fighting for Recognition:

1. Pride Leads to a Fall – "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)

2. It Breeds Envy and Strife – People who seek recognition often fight and gossip.

3. It Makes You Miss God’s Purpose – Many are so focused on fame that they forget their real calling.

4. It Brings Disappointment – When people don’t recognize you, you become bitter and depressed.

How to Overcome the Need for Recognition:

1. Seek God’s Approval, Not Man’s – "Do everything for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

2. Be Content with God’s Timing – Stop forcing yourself into positions God has not given you.

3. Serve with a Humble Heart – True greatness comes from serving, not self-promotion.

4. Let God Promote You – "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." (James 4:10)

5. Die to Self – Focus on pleasing God, not impressing people.

Reflection Questions:

1. Do you seek recognition more than God’s approval?

2. Are you competing with others for relevance?

3. Can you serve faithfully even when no one acknowledges you?

Prayer:

Lord, deliver me from the desire for recognition and human approval. Teach me to serve with humility, seeking only Your glory. Let me find contentment in pleasing You, and may I never fall into the foolishness of self-promotion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action Point:

Examine your motives today. If you find yourself seeking recognition, repent and shift your focus to serving God faithfully. True relevance comes from fulfilling God’s purpose, not from human applause!
